چکیده

We prove that for every > 0 and positive integer r, there exists ∆0 = ∆0( ) such that if ∆ > ∆0 and n > n(∆, , r) then there exists a packing of Kn with b(n − 1)/∆c graphs, each having maximum degree at most ∆ and girth at least r, where at most n edges are unpacked. This result is used to prove the following: Let f be an assignment of real numbers to the edges of a graph G. Let α(G, f) denote the maximum length of a monotone simple path of G with respect to f . Let α(G) be the minimum of α(G, f), ranging over all possible assignments. Now let α∆ be the maximum of α(G) ranging over all graphs with maximum degree at most ∆. We prove that ∆ + 1 ≥ α∆ ≥ ∆(1− o(1)). This extends some results of Graham and Kleitman [6] and of Calderbank, Chung and Sturtevant [4] who considered α(Kn).

Counting Euler Tours in Undirected Bounded Treewidth Graphs

We show that counting Euler tours in undirected bounded tree-width graphs is tractable even in parallel by proving a GapL ⊆ NC ⊆ P upper bound. This is in stark contrast to #P-completeness of the same problem in general graphs. Our main technical contribution is to show how (an instance of) dynamic programming on bounded clique-width graphs can be performed efficiently in parallel. Thus we show...

EPG-representations with Small Grid-Size

In an EPG-representation of a graph G, each vertex is represented by a path in the rectangular grid, and (v, w) is an edge in G if and only if the paths representing v an w share a grid-edge. Requiring paths representing edges to be x-monotone or, even stronger, both xand y-monotone gives rise to three natural variants of EPG-representations, one where edges have no monotonicity requirements an...

k-forested choosability of graphs with bounded maximum average degree

A proper vertex coloring of a simple graph is $k$-forested if the graph induced by the vertices of any two color classes is a forest with maximum degree less than $k$. A graph is $k$-forested $q$-choosable if for a given list of $q$ colors associated with each vertex $v$, there exists a $k$-forested coloring of $G$ such that each vertex receives a color from its own list. In this paper, we prov...

Space-Efficient Approximation Scheme for Maximum Matching in Sparse Graphs

We present a Logspace Approximation Scheme (LSAS), i.e. an approximation algorithm for maximum matching in planar graphs (not necessarily bipartite) that achieves an approximation ratio arbitrarily close to one, using only logarithmic space. This deviates from the well known Baker’s approach for approximation in planar graphs by avoiding the use of distance computation which is not known to be ...

On planar variants of the monotone satisfiability problem with bounded variable appearances

We show N P-completeness for several planar variants of the monotone satisfiability problem with bounded variable appearances. With one exception the presented variants have an associated bipartite graph where the vertex degree is bounded by at most four. Hence, a planar and orthogonal drawing for these graphs can be computed efficiently, which may turn out to be useful in reductions using thes...
